Custom-made Appliances
Retainers are custom-made appliances composed of wire, plastic, or rubber that holds your teeth in place. There are several types, and Dr. Martirosyan will advise you on the best one for your needs.
Fixed Retainers
Fixed/Bonded retainers are attached to your teeth and should only be removed by your dentist.
Hawley Retainers
Hawley retainers are the most common type, made of a plastic base that conforms to the shape of your mouth, with a wire wrapping around your teeth. They are easily removable for eating or brushing. Usually, these retainers should be worn full-time for a year after your braces are removed, and then further on your orthodontist’s recommendation.
Vivera/Invisalign Retainer
Vivera retainers are custom made for you with the same state-of-the-art technology used to make Invisalign aligners. Because the retainers are custom made from an impression or scan of your teeth, you will benefit from a precise fit and therefore more comfortable fit.
Essix Retainers
Essix retainers are clear plastic strips that resemble Invisalign. Some patients prefer them because they are less visible, but they don’t last as long as Hawley or VIVERA retainers.
