orthodontic services

We offer many orthodontic services including Invisalign and braces. There are many factors and reasons that make patients hesitate before choosing an orthodontic treatment. At Pacific Dental Care, we want to provide additional reassurance by addressing the most common questions up front. Here are several questions commonly asked by our patients, as well as their corresponding answers.

FAQ’s

What does an orthodontic specialist do?
Orthodontic specialists diagnose and correct problems with the position, alignment or spacing of the teeth. These problems can be corrected through special treatments, including braces and other oral appliances.

When should I visit an orthodontist?
You can visit an orthodontist at any age. The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that children first visit an orthodontist around the age of 7. However, many of our patients are adults. At Pacific Dental Care we treat both children and adults. Although braces are common with teenagers and children, it is never too late to improve how your smile looks and feels.

What are braces?
Braces are used by our orthodontist to align the teeth and give patients the smile they desire.

How long do patients usually have to wear braces?
It is different for each person. Orthodontic treatment times can take anywhere between 6 to 30 months. However, most standard treatments take about 22 months.

Are braces painful?
Braces are generally not painful. However, you may experience discomfort in your mouth within the few days after receiving braces.

Can I still play sports and participate in school activities with braces?
Yes, you can still play sports with braces. There is often time a short adjustment period when returning to sports or a musical instrument after braces. However, this just requires some getting used to and is temporary. When playing sports, we recommend wearing a mouthguard to protect your braces.

What are the different kinds of braces?
Thanks to new advances in today’s orthodontic technology, our patients have options when it comes to braces. The most popular form of braces at Pacific Dental Care includes traditional metal braces and FastBraces.

Metal Braces
Traditional metal braces are the most common form of braces, even today. Metal braces are more comfortable than ever before. With metal braces, patients can add colored elastic for a unique flare.

FastBraces
FastBraces correct and straighten teeth quickly and efficiently by simultaneously straightening the roots and the crowns of teeth. Traditional braces straighten the roots and crowns of the teeth separately, which can be a longer process. Fastbraces can straighten teeth in up to a year, sometimes even sooner.

What is Invisalign?
Invisalign is designed for patients who want to achieve a straighter smile without the appearance of traditional braces. The treatment is convenient and discreet. Invisalign consists of a series of clear plastic aligners, created precisely to gradually move your teeth into place. Using advanced 3-D Technology, we can customize your treatment plan. Invisalign is a great option for patients who want to improve their smile without traditional braces.

What is a Retainer?
Retainers are a custom-made aligner used after braces are removed to keep the teeth in place. Once your braces are removed, your teeth need to settle into the soft tissue that keeps the teeth in place. Retainers are generally worn at night while sleeping, or only for a short amount of time in the day.
