Wisdom / General Teeth Extractions

Wisdom teeth, also known as third molars, are the last teeth to erupt in your mouth usually between the ages of 17 and 25. When the jaw isn’t large enough to accommodate wisdom teeth, they can become impacted; grow sideways, emerge only part way from the gum or remain trapped beneath the gum and bone.

Regular teeth extractions are performed for a wide variety of reasons but mainly becasue of severe tooth decay or a infection that has destroyed enough tooth structure to prevent restoration. Extractions of impacted wisdom teeth are routinely performed, as well as extractions of some permanent teeth to make space for orthodontic treatment.

TMJ Disorder

Temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ), occurs when the joint that attaches the upper jaw and lower jaw is not working properly. The TMJ is the area directly in front of the ear on either side of the head where the upper and lower jaw meet. People with TMJ may have a clicking sound when opening or closing their mouth impeding the correct functionality.

This syndrome can cause headaches, ear pain or discomfort, dizziness, tooth sensibility, neck, shoulder and mandibular muscle pain, among others. Temporomandibular disorder affects the muscles that control chewing and the articulation of the jaw, fortunately there are many treatment options for TMJ disorders; such as surgery, occlusal and other therapies, medications, jaw rest and many more.
