Types of Dental Crowns

We offer multiple crown materials to address functional needs, cosmetic goals, bite forces, and long-term durability.

  • All-Ceramic Crowns Metal-free and highly aesthetic—ideal for front teeth. Great for: Natural translucency
  • Zirconia Crowns Extremely strong, fracture-resistant, and tooth-colored—excellent for molars and patients with strong bites.
  • Gold Crowns Ultra-durable and gentle on opposing teeth; preferred for patients who prioritize longevity and comfort.
  • Porcelain-Fused-to-Metal (PFM) Combines porcelain esthetics with metal strength, though metal may show if gums recede.
  • Resin Crowns More affordable, tooth-colored option best for temporary or transitional needs.
  • Stainless Steel Crowns Typically used for children’s primary teeth due to durability and cost-effectiveness. Pediatric solution

All-Ceramic Crowns

All-ceramic crowns are crafted from high-translucency materials that mimic natural enamel. They are ideal for highly visible areas and for patients with metal sensitivities. These crowns blend naturally with surrounding teeth and offer strong, stable performance for everyday function.

Gold Crowns

Gold crowns are one of the most durable and biocompatible options available. They resist fractures, withstand heavy biting forces, and are gentle on opposing teeth, which helps preserve your natural bite. While their metallic appearance makes them less common for front teeth, they remain a top choice for molars.

Zirconia Crowns

Zirconia crowns provide exceptional strength along with an attractive tooth-colored surface. They are ideal for patients who grind or clench their teeth or for molars exposed to significant chewing forces. Zirconia offers outstanding longevity and resistance to chipping.

Implant-Retained Crowns

When a dental implant is placed to replace a missing tooth, a custom implant-retained crown attaches securely to the implant post. These crowns restore natural chewing power, resemble real teeth, and help maintain jawbone health. Once placed, they function and feel much like a natural tooth.

Same-Day CEREC Crowns

Same-day CEREC crowns offer convenience, precision, and speed. Using advanced digital scanning and in-office milling, we create and place your permanent crown in a single appointment. No temporary crown, no second visit—just fast, durable, and beautifully matched results.

What to Expect During the Dental Crown Procedure

Most crowns are completed in two visits, except for CEREC same-day restorations. At your initial visit, we evaluate the tooth, take images, and gently reshape the surface to make room for the crown. A temporary crown protects the tooth while your final crown is crafted.

At your follow-up visit, we remove the temporary, ensure a perfect fit, and permanently bond the new crown in place.

Longevity & Maintenance

With proper care, crowns typically last 5–15 years or longer. Avoid chewing overly hard objects and maintain a consistent brushing and flossing routine. Even with a crown, the underlying tooth still needs protection from decay and gum disease.

Dental Crowns FAQs

How do I know which crown material is best for me?
Your choice depends on where the crown is placed, your bite strength, cosmetic goals, and any metal sensitivities. We guide you through each option to find the best fit.
Are same-day CEREC crowns as durable as traditional crowns?
Yes. CEREC crowns are milled from high-strength ceramic and provide excellent long-term durability with the added benefit of same-day placement.
Can crowns be used after a root canal?
Absolutely. Teeth that have undergone root canal therapy often need crowns to protect and reinforce the remaining structure.
Do gold crowns still have a place in modern dentistry?
Yes. Gold remains one of the longest-lasting and most biocompatible restorative materials, especially for molars.
How long will my dental crown last?
Most crowns last 5–15 years depending on material, oral habits, and home care. Many last significantly longer with excellent hygiene.
Is the crown procedure painful?
The procedure is performed under local anesthesia for comfort. You may experience mild temporary sensitivity afterward.
